ATABEY ROOFTOP
A TRIBUTE TO DR's INDIGeNOUS ROOTS
Before Europeans set to sail the western hemisphere in the 15th century, an indigenous group named "Tainos" inhabited most of the islands in the Antilles. Despite the common erasure of Taino culture in textbooks, recent studies have found that Taino DNA can be found in up to 14% of Caribbean people. In the Dominican Republic, Taino culture is having a strong revival.

THE ROOFTOP THEME
A connection to mother
earth within city limits
Atabey is one of the most important Taino deities — a maternal figure, she is the embodiment of the Earth spirit. On a mission to restore our indigenous roots and coral reefs, @GlobalCoralition is deploying underwater Taino sculptures to revive DR's oceans.
